Paul Martin
Sport: Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism
Induction Year: 1982
Martin worked at the The Monroe News-Star and Morning World for 49 years and was sports editor from 1939-77. He also served as president of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association five times. In 1992, the Twin Cities of Monroe and West Monroe recognized his service with Paul Martin Day.
Since 1982, The News-Star has annually given athletic achievement awards to the top male and female high school athletes in northeastern Louisiana in honor of Martin. The most prestigious honor offered to sports media personnel in Louisiana by their peers is the Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism.
Martin was part of the LSWA’s inaugural class bestowed this honor in 1982 along with Bill Keefe (New Orleans Times-Picayune), Bud Montet (Baton Rouge Morning Advocate) and Truman Stacy (Lake Charles America Press). (Written By: P. Letlow)
