A Tallulah native, and an LSU halfback from 1944-47, Cason played eight years of pro football, twice reaching the Pro Bowl as a defensive back (1952, 1955). He was elected defensive team captain in five of his eight pro seasons in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Denver. He played from 1948-52 for the San Francisco 49ers, leading them in interceptions in three years and serving as defensive captain. He was an International News Service All-Pro in 1949 and honorable mention All-Pro in 1955. At LSU, he was a highly-respected defender who had some memorable offensive highlights in the era of two-way players.
